Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding in Sekatak, Dozens of Residents' Houses Are Flooded

BULUNGAN - Heavy rain that hit the Sekatak District area, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) caused flooding that flooded the residents' settlements in several villages.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kaltara, Andi Amriampa, explained that based on the BPBD Bulungan Regency report, the flood occurred at around 08.00 WITA which was caused by a significant increase in the river's water discharge until it overflowed into the residential area.

"The heavy rainfall caused the river to overflow and flood people's houses. The affected areas include Sekatak Bengara Village, Pungit Village, and Pentian Village," said Amriampa, Wednesday, January 7.

Amri explained that the results of the temporary monitoring in the field recorded at least 36 families (KK) affected by the flood in Pungit Village. Meanwhile, data collection in Sekatak Bengara Village and Pentian Village is still being carried out by officers together with village officials and local Babinsa.

"Initial information about the incident was received by BPBD Bulungan from the Head of Pungit Village, Babinsa Sekatak Bengara, and the staff of Pentian Village. Until now, no casualties have been reported, but a number of residents' houses have been flooded," he explained.

As a handling step, the BPBD of Bulungan Regency has monitored the field conditions and coordinated with the local village government. The BPBD team also carried out assessments and continued data collection on the location and residents affected by the flood.

"BPBD Bulungan again appeals to the public to increase vigilance against potential hydrometeorological disasters. The appeal refers to the Circular Letter of the Regent of Bulungan Number 300.2.3./593/BPBD.1 dated December 1, 2025 regarding preparedness for disasters, especially in the midst of high rainfall intensity," said Amrie.

He added that the personnel involved in the field consisted of village staff and Babinsa, while the documentation of the incident had been collected as material for further reports.

"BPBD Kaltara and Bulungan are working together to continue monitoring the development of the situation and are ready to take further steps if the flood conditions spread or have a greater impact on the community," he said.
