The Housemaid Signals a Sequel, Sydney Sweeney Joins Again?
JAKARTA - The Housemaid film is rumored to continue to the second film. This film directed by Paul Feig is starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney who reaped success when it was shown in theaters.
The Housemaid grossed 133 million US dollars for two weeks of screenings. The revenue was high for a film with a budget of 35 million US dollars.
Launching Deadline, the Lionsgate production house gave the green light for a sequel to The Housemaid which was taken from the second book of Freida McFadden's The Housemaid's Secret.
Production preparations for the second film will begin this year with Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone reprising their roles.
The Housemaid tells the story of Millie (Sydney Sweeney), a woman who starts a new life by becoming a maid in the home of Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Skelnar).
Michele Morrone plays Enzo, a garden worker at Nina and Andrew's house. The film earned more than 100 million US dollars for global screenings.
"It's clear from the global box office and social media performance that the audience responded strongly to The Housemaid's theatrical experience and are curious about what happens next," said Lionsgate's Adam Fogelson.
"We believed in this story from the beginning and we're excited to bring the next part of Millie's story to life by collaborating with our incredible creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney," said Fogelson.
The sequel is also written by Rebecca Sonnenshine who worked on the first film. In addition to starring in the film, Sydney Sweeney is also an executive producer.
When attending the Palm Springs Film Festival, Amanda Seyfried revealed that the sequel was confirmed to continue. Director Paul Feig is not yet known to be directing again or not.
"No one has said anything about number two yet but I'm sure there is a number two and I'm sure I'm going to be a cameo in the sequel because it's about Syd working for a new family. And there's a lot going on especially with Michele's character, Enzo," said Amanda Seyfried.
