Basarnas Finds the Body of a Suspected Valencia Coach on KM Putri Sakinah
JAKARTA - Basarnas stated that the body suspected to be the child of the coach of the Valencia FC B women's football team, Martin Carreras, was found inside the hull of the Putri Sakinah Motor Vessel (KM) in the waters of Padar Island, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"The victim was found inside the ship in a dead state," said Deputy Operations and Preparedness of Basarnas Edy Prakoso in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 7.
Edy explained that the victim's body was found on Monday (5/1) afternoon at around 14.30 WITA. Furthermore, the victim was evacuated using the Basarnas Puntadewa 250 ship to the Marina Labuan Bajo Port.
Upon arrival at the port, the victim was handed over by the SAR team to the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team of the West Manggarai Police to carry out the identification process to ensure the victim's identity, including ensuring whether the body was indeed the child of Martin Carreras.
With the discovery of the body, Edy said that until now there was still one other victim who was declared missing and was still being searched by the joint SAR team.
Previously, the KM Putri Sakinah had an accident on December 26, 2025 while sailing in the waters of the Padar Island Strait, the Komodo National Park area. The ship was carrying 11 people, consisting of six foreign tourists from Spain, one tour guide, and four crew members.
Of the total passengers and crew, seven people were rescued. The rest were declared missing, including the coach of the Valencia FC B women's football team and her children.
