BYD Sealion 6 Injected to Death in China, What's Wrong?

BYD has removed the Sealion 6 SUV, also known as Song Plus, from the Chinese domestic product line and replaced it with the Sealion 06.

Since its launch in September 2020, the Sealion 6 has actually become the mainstay of the BYD SUV lineup. In fact, in China alone, this model recorded sales throughout the year of 400,920 units in 2025.

Meanwhile, globally, cumulative sales of this model family have exceeded 1.5 million units by October 2025, reflecting its continued popularity in domestic and international markets, as quoted from the CNevpost page, Wednesday, January 7.

In Europe and Asia, the Sealion 6 has been received competitively. Cumulative sales of November 2025 in Germany exceeded 11,818 units, and monthly sales in Great Britain exceeded 5,000 units. In Japan, the model is positioned at a higher price point, indicating acceptance in established markets.

Although domestic sales have ended, the Sealion 6 continues to be produced and sold in overseas markets. BYD's factory in Thailand has produced more than 70,000 units of the Sealion 6 locally, reflecting local demand and export capacity.

The cessation of production in the country is part of the wider restructuring of BYD's SUV product for the Ocean series. Indeed, many brands are present in this segment and of course BYD does not want to miss the wagon.

Sealion 06 will later continue to serve domestic buyers with an updated exterior design, revised product line position, and newer platform technology.
