Dangerous, Jaksel Police Investigate Drift Car Action in Front of Pondok Indah Mall

JAKARTA - A number of sports cars were recorded performing drift in the Pondok Indah area, South Jakarta, on Saturday night, January 3, 2026. The video of the action circulated widely on social media and garnered public attention.

Responding to this, the Head of Traffic Police at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Mujiyanto, said that his party would conduct an in-depth investigation regarding the drifting action recorded in the video.

"We will investigate and trace the drifting activities," said Mujiyanto when confirmed, Wednesday, December 7, 2025.

Mujiyanto emphasized that drifting on public roads is not allowed because it has the potential to endanger other road users.

"If the drifting action endangers others or other drivers, it is certainly very unfortunate. In terms of rules, the point is not in accordance and not in its place," he said.

Furthermore, the police will coordinate with a number of related parties to prevent similar incidents from occurring later.

"In the future, we cannot follow up on our own. We will coordinate with other stakeholders, such as the Transportation Office, Bagops of the South Jakarta Metro Police, the local police, and other parties," he explained.

According to Mujiyanto, a number of preventive measures will be studied, ranging from installing prohibition signs to submitting the installation of speed traps around the scene of the incident.

"We can put a sign prohibiting drifting at the location, then we will propose the installation of a speed trap around the location," he said.

Mujiyanto suggested that the public channel their automotive hobby in places that have been officially provided.

"If you really want to channel your hobby, there is a safety driving place available at the Pusdik Lantas Serpong," he added.

He also appealed to drivers not to channel extreme driving hobbies on public roads because it could endanger public safety.

"I appeal to drivers, if you want to channel your hobby, don't do it in the wrong place because it can endanger others. If there is an accident, the community that is the victim is certainly very unfortunate," he concluded.
