Mexican President Sheinbaum Reiterates Rejection of US Intervention in Other Countries
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday reiterated her opposition to U.S. attacks on other countries, including Venezuela and the extradition of the country's leader.
The United States carried out a military operation in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, last weekend, which was followed by the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.
"We firmly reject interference in the internal affairs of other countries," President Sheinbaum said, repeating an earlier statement, launching Al Arabiya from Reuters (6/1).
The Mexican leader added that Mexico is a sovereign country and cooperates with the US on drug trafficking and security.
President Sheinbaum's statement follows US President Donald Trump's comments over the weekend hinting at military action in Mexico to combat drug cartels.
It is known that President Maduro and his wife were taken to Uncle Sam's country and were brought before a federal court in New York on Monday.
In yesterday's trial, President Maduro pleaded not guilty to the four charges brought against him, namely: drug terrorism, cocaine import conspiracy, and possession of machine guns and explosive devices.
The wife also pleaded not guilty. The plan is for the trial of the two to continue on March 17.
