Jakarta is still marked by fights, DPRD urges Satpol PP to patrol permanently in vulnerable areas
JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Justin Adrian Untayana, urged the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP to carry out regular patrols permanently in areas prone to incidents of fighting.
Considering that, at the beginning of this year, Jakarta was still marked by fights in a number of areas such as the Manggarai area. Moreover, according to Justin, Jakarta has allocated a budget and has sufficient resources for public order security.
"Regarding permanent patrols, I think it should have been done a long time ago, especially in areas prone to fighting. Moreover, our Satpol PP has thousands of personnel, and our grant to the Metro Jaya Police is tens of billions per year, so permanent patrols should be carried out intensively every day," Justin told reporters, Tuesday, January 6.
In addition, the DKI Provincial Government should also have installed surveillance cameras or CCTV at points prone to clashes. Because, the placement of these cameras is commonly applied in metropolitan cities.
"So, regarding permanent patrols and CCTV, the Governor and his tens of thousands of employees should not have to wait for suggestions or input from the public to 'learn' how to prevent security in the city," said Justin.
On the one hand, Justin emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government should give strict sanctions to the residents of the brawl. He considered that security and infrastructure alone were not enough if they were not accompanied by action against brawl actions, illegal racing, vandalism, hooliganism, and so on.
Then, Justin said, it was time for Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order to be revised by accompanying more comprehensive regulations as an effort to eradicate criminal acts including rioting in Jakarta.
"I think many residents are also tired of seeing the drama of crying parents and children when the rioting perpetrators are 'only' advised and returned to their parents. The governor should understand that the establishment of public order will have an impact on the quality of human civilization in an area," said Justin.
"Once again, without firm action, no one will be deterred, and a culture of legal compliance will never be built in DKI," he added.
Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung responded to the brawl that colored Jakarta in early 2026, one of which occurred in Manggarai, South Jakarta.
Pramono has received a report from the Mayor of South Jakarta M. Anwar regarding the incident. Based on internal investigations by the DKI Provincial Government, Pramono suspects that there are certain parties who deliberately trigger the brawl in the area.
"We really want to investigate first. Previously, I had been there too. We suspect that there was indeed a collision. But later, I specifically asked the Mayor to explain," said Pramono at Kemang Village, South Jakarta, Monday, January 5.
Pramono admitted that the brawl in the Manggarai area had indeed been going on for a long time and had occurred repeatedly. According to him, another factor that causes fights in Manggarai is because the energy of each citizen is not properly released. In addition, they have a lot of free time because they don't have a permanent job.
Therefore, Pramono ensured that the DKI Provincial Government would make it easier for Manggarai residents to find jobs. With that, it is hoped that the potential for fighting can be avoided.
"So the most important thing is that the energy must be channeled correctly. For that, then the space for those who fight is that the energy is channeled. Work," said Pramono.
