BYD Car ADAS Chip Supplier Passes US Inspection and is Ready for Global Sale

JAKARTA - Chinese chip manufacturer Black Sesame Technologies (BST), has recorded an important milestone in the automotive semiconductor industry. Their smart driving chip Huashan A2000 has officially passed the review of the United States Department of Commerce and Department of Defense.

As a result, the chip is now allowed to be marketed globally. BST is also the only Chinese company to have successfully passed the inspection process. In an announcement on January 4, BST said the Huashan A2000 series was designed to meet a variety of smart driving needs.

Reported by Carnewschina, Monday, January 5, the A2000 Lite variant is focused on an intelligent driving experience in urban areas, the A2000 for intelligent driving in various scenarios. While the A2000 Pro is aimed at advanced intelligent driving with full coverage.

In early January 2025, Huashan A2000 had completed the tape out process. Due to its high performance, this chip was the subject of a review by the US government. BST claims that the computing power of Huashan A2000 reaches up to four times that of the current mainstream flagship chips.

Technically, the Huashan A2000 is built with a 7 nm process. This chip supports FP16/FP8 floating-point computing as well as full INT4/INT8/INT16 precision, and is equipped with the BaRT AI toolchain for comprehensive development from model training to deployment in vehicles.

As a computing platform with an open ecosystem, Huashan A2000 provides space for automotive manufacturers and third-party developers to design and implement their own solutions. BST confirms its commitment to deepening collaboration with industry partners to accelerate mass production and adoption of this smart driving technology.

One of the key partners is BYD, in February 2025, BST confirmed that the Huashan A2000 chip had been adopted by BYD, entered the mass production stage, and began to be delivered. Other partners who have joined include FAW, Dongfeng, Geely, and Hongqi.

Founded in July 2016 and headquartered in Wuhan, China, Black Sesame Technologies provides automotive-grade computing platforms and solutions for smart vehicles. From chips, smart cockpits, to algorithms and network architectures for machine learning research.
