DPR hopes John Herdman, the new national team coach, will improve the quality of players
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, responded to the decision of the PSSI which has appointed John Herdman as the Coach of the Indonesian National Team.
He hopes that the presence of the new coach to replace Patrick Kluivert can bring a new direction that is more professional and measurable in improving national football performance.
"The appointment of John Herdman is expected to improve the quality of the Indonesian national team's game, strengthen the discipline of tactics, and build the mental of competing players at every level of competition," Lalu Hadrian told reporters, Monday, January 5.
According to Lalu, the main challenge of the new coach is not only to pursue short-term results, but also to build a strong and sustainable team foundation.
The head of the youth and sports commission also emphasized the importance of optimizing the potential of Indonesian young players as part of the regeneration of the national team.
"John Herdman must be able to maximize the potential of our young players while building a sustainable team regeneration system," said the PKB legislator from the NTB II District.
Then Hadrian assessed that long-term coaching of football athletes must also be the top priority. Covering the selection of players that are objective, both from domestic competitions and Indonesian players who have careers abroad, as well as building solid cooperation with local clubs.
"This includes the search and development of talent to the regions, so that the Indonesian National Team is more competitive and has a strong talent base," he explained.
"I hope that the presence of the new coach for the Indonesian National Team is not solely oriented towards instant results, but is also able to build a long-term foundation for the progress and achievements of Indonesian football in the future," continued Lalu.
