Toyota Innova This Model Is Ready to Say Goodbye after More Than a Decade of Driving

JAKARTA - After more than a decade as the backbone of sales, the second generation Toyota Innova Crysta is preparing to end its presence in the Indian market. Local media reports say 2026 will be the last full year of sales for this model, before production is officially halted in early 2027.

India, Indonesia, and the Philippines are listed as some of the last global markets that still market the Innova Crysta alongside its latest generation, the Toyota Innova Hycross. However, for the Indian market, the parting is already in sight.

Launching Gaadiwaadi, Monday, January 5, the Innova Crysta was first introduced globally in 2015 as the second generation of the Innova family. A year later, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) brought it to India.

Since then, this MPV has emerged as one of Toyota's best-selling models in the country, especially in the family vehicle and commercial fleet segments. With the arrival of Innova Hycross as the third generation, TKM has gradually cut the Innova Crysta variant.

The choice of gasoline engines and automatic transmissions is discontinued, leaving only one main configuration aimed at fleet consumers. This model is now only offered with a 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbocharged diesel engine combined with a five-speed manual transmission.

The engine initially met BS-IV emission standards, before being upgraded to comply with BS-VI Phase 1 and Phase 2 regulations. Even so, TKM is rumored not to develop this engine further. Regulatory pressure is a key factor behind the decision.

Starting April 2027, India will impose a Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) 3 standard that requires higher fuel efficiency and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. With the construction of a heavy ladder frame chassis and a diesel engine character that is considered less environmentally friendly, the Innova Crysta is considered difficult to meet the new standards.

In fact, Toyota had planned to stop production of the Innova Crysta earlier. However, the high market demand and the Innova Hycross component supply chain constraints have extended sales.

Now, the decision to stop production is said to be final. In India, the price of the Innova Crysta is in the range of 1,865,700-2,536,200 rupees (ex-showroom price), or equivalent to Rp346 million to Rp471 million.

Meanwhile, the Innova Hycross is priced at 1,805,800-2,035,100 rupees for the gasoline variant, and 2,590,400-3,189,600 rupees for the hybrid version. In the future, Toyota is expected to adjust the price of the Hycross hybrid variant to remain competitive and maintain demand after the Innova Crysta officially said goodbye.
