Disaster-Affected Areas Record Highest Inflation, Aceh Breaks 3.6 Percent

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the highest monthly inflation in December 2025 in disaster-affected areas, with Aceh Province topping the list with an inflation of 3.6 percent.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini said that the spike in inflation was also experienced by other provinces affected by hydrometeorological disasters, namely North Sumatra and West Sumatra with 1.66 percent and 1.48 percent respectively.

According to Pudji, at the regional level, the three provinces experienced inflation in December 2025 after previously recording deflation in November 2025.

He added that Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra were among the groups of regions with the highest inflation nationally.

"Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra inflation in December after deflation in November. These three provinces have the highest inflation rate in December 2025. The reason is the increase in commodity prices due to the effects of disasters at the end of November 2025," he said in a press conference, Monday, January 5.

Pudji said the cause of inflation in the three regions was due to the increase in commodity prices caused by the effects of hydrometeorological disasters at the end of November 2025 and in general, the food, beverage and tobacco group commodities contributed the most to inflation in the three regions.

Meanwhile, in Aceh, inflation was mainly triggered by an increase in rice prices with a contribution of 0.88 percent, followed by household fuel and cooking oil which each contributed 0.26 percent.

Meanwhile, inflation in North Sumatra was driven by an increase in the price of red chilies by 0.41 percent and onions by 0.24 percent.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, inflation was supported by red onions by 0.22 percent and chili rawit by 0.18 percent.

"Like in Aceh, which is mainly driven by rising rice prices, then North Sumatra is driven by rising chili prices, as well as inflation in West Sumatra which is mainly driven by onions," he said.
