DPRD Proposes to Lift Social Assistance for Family of Perpetrators of Violence, DKI Provincial Government Chooses a Humanistic Approach
JAKARTA - 2026 opened with a brawl that occurred in several points in Jakarta, such as in the Manggarai area to Klender. The DKI Jakarta DPRD suggested that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government revoke the distribution of social assistance (bansos) to families whose family members were involved in the brawl.
In response to this, the Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, emphasized that the Provincial Government respected the input of the DPRD. However, according to him, the revocation of social assistance needs to be considered carefully because it has the potential to have an impact on vulnerable families.
"We respect these inputs as a form of concern to create a deterrent effect and family responsibility. However, the current provincial government approach still prioritizes humanistic and comprehensive prevention, not sanctions that can have an impact on vulnerable families as a whole," Chico told reporters, Monday, January 5.
Chico explained that social assistance programs such as the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), Jakarta Senior Card (KLJ), and other social assistance have the main goal of protecting poor people and vulnerable groups. Therefore, the cancellation of social assistance cannot be done immediately.
However, the DKI Provincial Government will still open room for evaluation of the distribution of social assistance so that it is targeted. "We will continue to coordinate with the DPRD and Dinsos to evaluate the distribution of social assistance so that it is more targeted," said Chico.
On the other hand, the DKI Provincial Government claims to have prepared special steps to suppress the potential for fights and social conflicts. Since November 2025, the Governor of DKI Jakarta has formed and inaugurated the Jakarta Watchdog Task Force which focuses on addressing social vulnerability.
"This task force involves cross-element collaboration, including Forkopimda (TNI-Polri), community leaders, and residents, with a humanistic approach such as early information, quick coordination, and measurable actions," he said.
For areas that have been known to be prone to conflict, such as Manggarai, the Jakarta Guard Task Force will be focused as a front guard for prevention. The Provincial Government has also prepared a channel for citizen complaints through the #JagaJakarta program.
The DKI Provincial Government targets that the prone area of fights can be suppressed to zero cases by 2026. Although it is admitted that there is no instant solution, Chico emphasized the importance of collaboration from all parties.
"We target the Manggarai area and other vulnerable areas to be zero fights in 2026. There is no instant solution, but with the collaboration of all parties, God willing, we can achieve it together," explained Chico.
Previously, Secretary of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Justin Adrian, proposed that the DKI Provincial Government evaluate, if necessary, revoking the ownership of social assistance to families whose members are perpetrators of fights.
Because, according to Justin, this habit of fighting is the result of the family's indifference in educating children or family members not to participate in negative activities. There needs to be a deterrent effect so that the number of fights in Jakarta can be suppressed.
"The DKI Provincial Government needs to show firmness. This problem has happened many times and is getting deeper without a series of concrete solutions that can solve it completely," said Justin.
"This social assistance is the sweat of the people of Jakarta, it should not be given to those who do not participate in being good Jakarta residents," he added.
