Malaysia Investigates Grok Chatbot Related to Vulgar Content on X

JAKARTA - Malaysia is the next country to condemn Grok's image editing capabilities on X. The reason is that xAI's chatbot can create vulgar deepfake content by changing photos of women or minors.

Based on the results of the investigation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Grok was proven to have digitally manipulated images on X. The resulting images were also considered indecent, offensive, and fell into the category of being harmful to the public.

"(we) note with serious concern public complaints about the misuse of AI tools on the X platform, especially the digital manipulation of images of women and minors," the MCMC said in its official statement, quoted on Monday, January 5.

Currently, MCMC is investigating how much impact the image editing feature has. The commission is also investigating how Grok's Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology can escape the ethical security system.

MCMC explained that the creation of harmful content, which includes the creation of obscene and indecent content, is part of the violation of Article 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (PPK Act). If found to be in violation of the law, X will be forced to comply with the local government's decision.

"Although X is currently not a licensed service provider, X has an obligation to prevent the spread of harmful content on its platform. MCMC is currently investigating the negative impact of online on X and will call their representatives," concluded MCMC.

The xAI party has not made any statements or apologies regarding the ability to change vulgar images that have harmed many users. However, Elon Musk as the owner of X has banned users from using Grok for the wrong purpose.

"Anyone who uses Grok to create illegal content will bear the same consequences as if they uploaded illegal content," Musk said via his X account. Musk did not elaborate on what consequences people who abuse Grok on X would receive.
