Revitalization of the New North Sumatra School 48.5 Percent, 431 Still Under Construction
MEDAN - Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti revealed that the progress of revitalizing educational units in North Sumatra (Sumut) has so far only reached 48.5 percent of the total target.
"Of this total, 431 educational units have been realized below 95 percent, and are currently under construction," he said when inaugurating school revitalization assistance at SMK Negeri 7, Medan City, North Sumatra on Sunday, January 4 afternoon.
He explained that the revitalization of educational units that have entered the implementation stage of construction with a progress of up to 95% has been recorded as 117 schools or equivalent to 13.4%. Meanwhile, the revitalization that has been completed 100% has reached 349 educational units or about 39%.
The revitalization program includes the construction and renovation of various levels of education, ranging from 34 early childhood education (PAUD), 400 elementary schools (SD), 240 middle schools (SMP), 119 high schools (SMA), 88 vocational high schools (SMK), 11 extraordinary schools (SLB), to five PKBN/SKB.
The total budget allocated for the revitalization of education in North Sumatra reached IDR 852.49 billion. "This revitalization program is carried out collaboratively between the central government, provinces, regencies, and cities, as part of efforts to succeed the 4th President's Asta Cita, namely improving the quality of human resources," said Mu'ti.
In addition to physical revitalization, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has also distributed 17,703 digital interactive boards to schools in North Sumatra. Currently, the delivery still has eight units left and is targeted to be completed so that it can be used in the second semester.
Especially in Medan City, Abdul Mu'ti said that the 2025 revitalization included three PAUD, six elementary and junior high schools, 20 high schools, 11 vocational schools, and two SLBs. Of the total, 24 educational units or about 50 percent have completed revitalization with a progress below 95 percent.
Nationally, the school revitalization program in 2025 targets 16,175 educational units with a total budget allocation of Rp. 16.9 trillion.
