iPhone Users Report Battery Swelling During Flight

JAKARTA - A number of iPhone users have reported a rare problem with their device's battery that only appears when they are on a flight. In several reports circulating online, the iPhone battery is said to inflate when the plane is in the air and returns to normal after the plane lands.

The report raises concerns about the quality of manufacturing and quality control on the latest generation of iPhones. Although there has been no official statement from Apple, this phenomenon has attracted attention because it has occurred repeatedly in several different users.

Several iPhone users admit to experiencing battery swelling during flights. One of them is an iPhone 16 Pro Max user who said his device's battery was bulging in the middle of the flight until it made the back panel of the phone slightly raised. However, the condition returned to normal shortly after the plane landed.

A similar experience was also experienced by iPhone 15 users. He reported that the battery swelled in two different flights and returned to normal after landing. To prevent further risks, the user finally replaced the battery of his device. After the replacement was carried out, the problem did not return.

It emerged that the change in cabin pressure of the aircraft was the main trigger for this phenomenon. Some observers believe that the lithium-ion battery in certain iPhones is likely to be more sensitive to changes in air pressure, especially on older aircraft and the cabin pressure system is not as optimal as the new generation aircraft.

Under normal air pressure conditions, the gas trapped inside the battery remains compressed and is not visible. However, when the aircraft is at cruising altitude, the lower cabin pressure can cause the gas to expand and temporarily cause the battery to swell. When the aircraft returns to the ground and the air pressure returns to normal, the battery returns to its original shape.

Until now, the report is still limited to a handful of users of the latest iPhone models. However, users who experience similar incidents are advised to document the condition of the device and contact Apple's official service to get a battery inspection or replacement to avoid safety risks.
