10 People Injured Due to the Explosion of PT TGI Gas Pipe in Inderagiri Hilir
JAKARTA - A total of 10 people were injured and buildings and vehicles were also burned in the explosion of a gas pipe owned by PT Trans Gas Indonesia (TGI) in Batu Ampar Village, Kemuning District, Indragiri Hilir Regency (Inhil), Riau Province.
Head of the Inhil Police, AKBP Farouk Oktora, in a statement received in Pekanbaru, Sunday, said all victims were currently reported to have received intensive medical treatment after the incident on Friday, January 2, 2026.
"Of the total 10 injured victims, six of them suffered burns. Meanwhile, the other four suffered minor injuries due to falling while trying to save themselves from the high-pitched flames," he said.
In addition to the injured victims, he said, five trucks and five motorbikes that were parked at roadside kiosks on the Sumatra crossroad were burned. This happened because of its proximity to the explosion center.
The fire also burned down three business buildings owned by residents consisting of one tire workshop, a motorcycle washing place, and an oil palm fruit shelter building.
In the incident, the fire did not spread further to the main residential area of residents, which is about 500 meters from the leaking pipe.
The traffic flow connecting Riau and Jambi Provinces was temporarily closed for safety when the fire was still spraying into the air.
"The current situation is safe and the east Sumatra cross-line has been reopened normally for vehicles," he said.
The incident began on Friday (2/1), around 16.00 WIB, when residents heard a loud bang. Shortly after that, a fire burst to a height of 15 meters due to a leak in the underground gas pipe.
