Malaysia Condemns US Use of Force in Venezuela
JAKARTA - Malaysia through the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the use of force by the United States to Venezuela and opposes all forms of foreign interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
"As a principle, Malaysia opposes all forms of foreign interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as well as the threat or use of force," the Malaysian Foreign Ministry wrote, as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, January 4.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these principles are fundamental principles set out in the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
Malaysia has consistently upheld the importance of resolving disputes peacefully through dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international norms.
"At this critical time, it is very important for the parties concerned to refrain as much as possible and seek peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomacy," said the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.
In line with this development, Malaysia's top priority at this time remains the safety and well-being of Malaysians abroad.
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry stated that the Malaysian Embassy in Caracas had been in contact with Malaysians registered in the country, and all registered citizens who had been confirmed were currently safe and registered.
The Malaysian Embassy in Caracas is also actively monitoring the situation on the ground and is ready to provide the necessary consular assistance if needed.
Venezuelans were startled by a number of violent explosions in several parts of the country early Saturday amid rising tensions with the US, local media reported.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke seen in several places in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and air raid sirens were heard.
It was also reported that there were at least seven explosions and fighter jets were seen flying low.
Electricity was cut in several areas of Caracas, including the southern part of the city close to major military bases.
