BMKG: Cloudy to Nearly Rain Conditions in Indonesia This Weekend

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that cloudy weather to rain will still occur in most areas of Indonesia on the first weekend in 2026.

Through the weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta, Sunday, BMKG Praktirawan Afif S said that the potential for light rain was predicted to occur in Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, and Bandar Lampung.

"Meanwhile, the condition of cloudy to thick clouds is potentially occurring in Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, and Palembang. Meanwhile, the potential for rain accompanied by lightning needs to be watched out for in the Pangkal Pinang area," he said.

Turning to Java Island, Afif said that most areas were expected to experience light rain. Cloudy to heavy clouds are also potentially occurring, including in the Jakarta area.

Furthermore, for Kalimantan Island, he said, light rain is predicted to occur in most areas. The public is also urged to be alert to the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in the Tanjung Selor area.

"Cloudy weather to heavy clouds is predicted to occur in Banjarmasin," he said.

For the Bali and Nusa Tenggara regions, BMKG predicts cloudy to cloudy conditions are likely to occur in Denpasar and Mataram.

Meanwhile, on the island of Sulawesi, light rain is predicted to occur in most areas. However, BMKG warns that rain accompanied by lightning in Mamuju and moderate intensity rain that has the potential to occur in Palu.

As for the Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua regions, light rain is predicted to potentially occur in most areas.

Afif urged the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather.
