Will Smith Sued by a Violinist for Alleged Sexual Harassment
JAKARTA - Hollywood actor and rapper Will Smith is facing a lawsuit after a violinist filed a civil lawsuit against him.
Brian King Joseph, a violinist known through the America's Got Talent event, accused Smith of sexual harassment, unlawful unilateral dismissal, and retaliation during the rapper's concert tour.
In the lawsuit filed with the court, citing Variety, Joseph named Smith and Treyball Studios Management as defendants.
The plaintiff accused Smith of predatory behavior. Joseph claimed that the 57-year-old rapper deliberately made a certain approach pattern to prepare himself for further sexual exploitation during the tour series that took place last spring.
The beginning of this collaboration happened in November 2024, when Smith recruited Joseph to perform in a show in San Diego. The professional relationship continued with an invitation for Joseph to join the 2025 tour and contribute to Smith's latest album.
Joseph revealed that as they got closer, Smith made a personal statement. "You and I have a very special connection, which I don't have with anyone else," said Smith's statement as stated in the lawsuit.
The crucial incident that became the basis of the lawsuit occurred during a stop tour in Las Vegas in March 2025. Joseph claimed that his bag containing the hotel room key was lost for several hours before it was finally returned by management.
He believes that only management members have access to his room. When he returned to his room that night, Joseph found evidence of a stranger entering without permission. He found tissues, a bottle of HIV medicine with someone else's name, and a note with sexual intimidation.
The note read, "Brian, I'll be back no later than 5:30, just us (with a heart emoji), Stone F."
Joseph interpreted the message as a warning that someone would come back to force him to perform sexual acts. After reporting the incident - to hotel security, Smith's representative, and the police - Joseph admitted that he had received unpleasant treatment from the management team.
He is said to have made up stories and was suddenly fired from the tour.
As a result of the incident, Joseph admitted to suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and significant financial losses.
Through this legal path, he demands compensation for material and immaterial losses, the amount of which will be determined by the jury's decision in court later.
