Olmo and Lewandowski lead Barca to win Catalan derby against Espanyol
Barcelona emerged victorious in the Catalan Derby after defeating Espanyol with a score of 2-0 in the 19th week of the 2025/26 Spanish League at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday morning WIB.
El Barca secured the victory with two late goals scored by Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.
This victory makes Barcelona even stronger at the top of the standings with 49 points, seven points ahead of Real Madrid in second place. El Real will only play on Sunday when they host Real Betis at 22.15 WIB.
Meanwhile, Espanyol had to settle for fifth place with 33 points, as reported by the official LaLiga website.
Espanyol were the first to take the initiative in the attack. Roberto Fernandez almost brought the hosts ahead in the 19th minute, but his shot from inside the penalty area was still able to be secured by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Barcelona responded through individual action from Lamine Yamal, but the young player's shot from the right side was still wide.
Garcia showed his incredible reflexes again in the 39th minute by deflecting Pere Milla's header on the near post that greeted Carlos Romero's cross. At halftime, no goals were scored and the score remained 0-0.
Entering the second half, Barcelona increased the intensity of the attack. Jules Kounde's close-range header almost broke the deadlock, but Dimitrovic was still alert to secure the ball.
On the other hand, Joan Garcia was back to being a solid wall after thwarting Roberto Fernandez's opportunity in the 68th minute.
The alternating pressure continued. Dimitrovic made an important save in the 72nd minute when he stopped Eric Garcia's close-range shot in the middle of the mess.
Joan Garcia was also busy with thwarting Carlos Romero's shot from the left side of the penalty box in the 76th minute.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 86th minute. Fermin Lopez stabbed from the middle before sending the ball to Dani Olmo on the left side. Without control, Olmo fired a precise shot into the left corner of the goal that Dimitrovic could not reach.
Barcelona secured victory in the 90th minute. Fermin Lopez was again the creator by entering the penalty box and sending a pull pass which was greeted by Robert Lewandowski's chip to close the match with a score of 2-0.
