After the Flood, Aceh Tamiang Clean Water Service Returns to Normal

JAKARTA - Clean water services for the people of Aceh Tamiang Regency are functioning again after the IKK Rantau Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) was reopened after the recent flood. This recovery is an important step to ensure that the basic needs of residents in the affected areas are met.

Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo directly reviewed the Rantau Water Treatment Plant (IPA) on Wednesday (31/12/2025) to ensure that the processing system runs normally and the quality of the resulting water is suitable for consumption. He ensured that the water had met health standards.

"Currently, the water is flowing into the reservoir and is being processed. The quality is already in accordance with the standard, so in general it is safe," said Dody through a statement in Jakarta, Friday.

During the visit, the raw water, which was previously cloudy due to flooding, appeared to be clear again after passing through the filtration stage. To ensure its quality, the Minister of PU even directly drank water from the storage tank at the location.

SPAM IKK Rantau has a production capacity of 40 liters per second and serves the clean water needs of residents of Rantau District and its surroundings. Previously, flash floods caused damage to a number of important facilities, ranging from IPA embankments, intakes, reservoirs, to pump equipment and electrical systems.

The acceleration of recovery is carried out by PT Hutama Karya (Persero) through various steps, including system repairs, pump optimization, mechanical and electrical rehabilitation, and sludge deposit cleaning. During the recovery process, emergency support in the form of the provision of temporary water tank towers and generators is also prepared to maintain service continuity.

On the sidelines of the review, residents had complained about the high price of private water tanks, which had jumped to Rp. 2.7 million due to limited supply during the flood. In response to this, Minister PU joked with residents about the water tariff provided by the government.

In the future, the government is committed to continuing the permanent rehabilitation and reconstruction program, especially on intake infrastructure and distribution networks, to ensure the sustainable availability of clean water for the people of Aceh Tamiang.
