DPR Members Reveal the Sisdiknas Bill to Maintain Cultural Sustainability through Education

Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdul Fikri Faqih, said that the revision of the National Education System Law (Sisdiknas), among others, is useful in maintaining the sustainability of cultural values through the education system.

"Currently, Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives is intensively discussing the revision of the Sisdiknas Law. This step is taken to ensure that the integration of cultural values is maintained and becomes an inseparable part of the education system, even though the ministry's institution is currently standing on its own," said Fikri, quoted in Jakarta, Friday.

By including cultural values in the education system, he said, it is hoped that the heritage of ancestors in the country will not only be a reminder of the past, but also continue to live and develop in line with the development of time.

Fikri hopes that culture will not only be a seasonal spectacle or a complement to formal events, but will be able to host in its own country.

According to him, the importance of the values of the East and spirituality contained in Indonesian culture must continue to be felt by the community so that it does not conflict with existing norms.

Fikri also highlighted cultural sustainability, such as Keroncong music after attending the 2025 Cultural Awakening event entitled Keroncong Music Performance at the People's Building, Slawi, Tegal Regency, Central Java.

This activity is a tangible manifestation of the strategic partnership between Commission X of the DPR RI and the Ministry of Culture to strengthen the nation's identity through traditional music art in the midst of massive global cultural currents.

During the event, dozens of keroncong music groups showed their abilities by presenting conventional arrangements or modern collaborations that are in line with the interests of today's young generation.

The cultural stage became more lively when the melodies of legendary songs, such as "Bengawan Solo" and "Gambang Semarang" echoed, juxtaposed with various contemporary songs wrapped in typical keroncong tones.

In addition to music performances, visitors were also treated to a keris exhibition which added to the richness of the various cultures displayed for the people of Tegal.

Fikri conveyed his deep appreciation for the implementation of this activity, especially with the transformation of the government structure which places the Ministry of Culture as an independent institution.

He explained that the ministry, which was previously part of one institution, is now divided into three parts, namely the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud), the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek).

The change in structure, according to him, should be a momentum to give more serious attention to the national cultural sector.

The legislator from the Central Java IX electoral district emphasized that the progress of a region depends very much on the extent to which the community is able to appreciate and pay attention to its own cultural roots as the foundation of the nation's character.

"Through events like this, we hope that the unique identity of Indonesian culture will remain standing and be a source of pride for all elements of society in caring for the heritage of the ancestors for the future of the nation with character," he said.
