Cianjur Police Remind Drivers to Be Aware of Thick Fog in Puncak Area

Cianjur - The Cianjur Regional Police (Polres), West Java, appealed to motorists to increase vigilance when crossing the Puncak line. This follows the extreme weather that is still occurring and accompanied by thick fog with very limited visibility.

Head of the Cianjur Police Traffic Unit, AKP Hardian Andrianto, Thursday, January 1, said heavy rain and thick fog often covered the Puncak area in the last few days, especially during the long holiday at the end of the year.

"Since this morning until noon, thick fog still covers the Puncak route with a visibility of only about 5 to 10 meters. Drivers are asked to be more vigilant, maintain a safe distance, and turn on the main lights," he said.

According to Hardian, during the year-end holidays, the volume of vehicles passing on the main Puncak-Cianjur route had increased to around 1,000 vehicles per hour. However, on the first day of 2026, traffic flow began to decline.

However, the police still deployed a number of traffic engineering to anticipate congestion, especially if there is a surge in traffic from the Bogor legal area. The implementation of the one-way system is carried out on a situational basis after coordinating with the Bogor Police.

"If there is congestion in the Bogor area, a one-way system from Puncak Pass will be implemented to prevent total congestion that can affect the Cianjur area," he explained.

On the night of the 2026 New Year, the Cianjur Police closed the traffic flow from the Gentur Light Monument to the By Pass road starting at 18.00 WIB to anticipate a surge in vehicles. Traffic from Cianjur to Puncak was diverted to the Jonggol and Sukabumi alternative routes.

The closure was then reopened at around 22.00 WIB as the volume of vehicles decreased after traffic arrangements were made.

Meanwhile, on the first day of 2026, the volume of vehicles heading to a number of tourist destinations along the Puncak-Cianjur route is still high. The police ensure that traffic engineering will be reapplied if there is a queue of vehicles.
