The body of a male baby was found floating in the Grogol Depok irrigation canal.

JAKARTA - Residents were shocked by the discovery of the body of a male baby in the irrigation canal of Jalan Pertanian Grogol, Limo, Depok City, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 evening.

Head of Public Relations of Depok Metro Police, AKP Made Budi, revealed that the information about the discovery was received by the police at around 22.30 WIB. The poor baby was first found by a resident with the initials MIM, who was then on the edge of Kali Grogol.

"On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at around 22.30 WIB, information was received about the discovery of the body of a baby of the male gender in the irrigation flow on Jl Pertanian," he said, in a statement, Thursday, December 1, 2025.

Budi explained that at around 22.00 WIB, witness MIM, saw an object floating in the stream and thought it was a doll. After being confirmed with the surrounding residents, the object turned out to be the body of an infant.

"The witness then called the residents and contacted the local RT chairman with the initials K. Then the police were contacted," he said.

Officers from the Cinere Police Precinct, immediately came to the scene of the incident. The police then secured the crime scene, listed witnesses, listed the victims, and made a report of the incident.

Budi revealed that at around 00.00 WIB, the Depok Metro Police Inafis Team arrived at the location and conducted an initial examination of the baby's body. From the results of the interim examination, the baby was male with the condition of the genitals still attached and is estimated to have died about two days before being found.

"Later, the police evacuated the body of the baby to the National Police Hospital, Jakarta, at around 00.30 WIB," he said.

Budi said that until now the identity of the parents of the baby and the cause of the baby being in the river was still unknown and was still under investigation.

"I don't know, it's still in the investigation process," he concluded.
