Police Prevent Teen Brawl on Klender Flyover During New Year's

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Metro Police thwarted a planned brawl that was allegedly involving two groups of teenagers in the Jalan Lanyang or Klender Flyover area, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Thursday (1/1) morning.

"There is indeed (an incident), but there are no victims, and in fact it has not yet happened because we can anticipate it first," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Alfian Nurrizal when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday.

The police were able to anticipate the incident before the open clash, so that it did not cause any casualties or injuries.

Alfian explained that the potential for a brawl was detected at around 00.30 WIB or shortly after the turn of the year. The incident was also viral on the Instagram social media @jakarta.terkini.

Officers in the field who had been on alert since the night of the New Year's Eve immediately moved after finding signs leading to a brawl.

According to Alfian, the two groups were suspected of having agreed to meet around the Klender Flyover. As a signal or code, they lit firecrackers, which have often been a marker before fights begin.

"They usually use signs, like lighting firecrackers. That's a common code like that. Well, we already know the pattern. As soon as there is a firecracker, the members immediately move," explained Alfian.

The East Jakarta Metro Police's pioneer team, which was on patrol, immediately headed to the location after seeing the crowd. The masses from both groups were immediately dispersed and separated before they could attack each other.

"Our members on duty immediately anticipated. Before there was a brawl, we first talked about it, we separated, until finally the situation was safe," said Alfian.

At the scene, the police found several people carrying sharp weapons, but his party chose to prioritize preventive measures, given the density of the community on New Year's Eve.

"The group has been identified, but because there were no victims and the situation had to be quickly resolved, we prioritized prevention. If we focus on securing the person, while there are still many other locations that we also have to arrange," said Alfian.

However, he ensured that the situation in the Klender Flyover area was conducive after the crowd was dispersed. There were no reports of people being victims or damage to public facilities.

"Safe, safe. There are no people or people who are victims of life, injuries, and so on. There is none at all," said Alfian.
