Flash floods and landslides hit a number of districts and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on November 25, 2025, causing more than a thousand people to die, hundreds of people were declared missing, and tens of thousands of houses, bridges, hospitals, health centers, schools, and other vital buildings were destroyed and severely damaged.

However, a month after the disaster, the Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya this week (29/12/2025) announced that as many as 87 hospitals (RS) affected by the disaster in Sumatra had resumed operations and provided health services for the community.

"According to the Minister of Health (Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, ed.), there are 87 hospitals that are affected, all of which are paralyzed. In this one month, all of them, 87 have been able to serve patients. Some are not perfect, but for sure of the 87, all of them can come to patients, be treated," said the Presidential Secretariat, Teddy, at a press conference at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base Integrated Post, Jakarta, on December 29, 2025.

Not only hospitals, Teddy continued, the government is also working hard to restore hundreds of health centers that were paralyzed by flash floods. Of the total 867 health centers affected by the disaster, most have been operating and leaving eight health centers that have not been able to operate normally.

In the education sector, the Seskab Teddy explained that the government was also continuing to try to restore school buildings that were submerged in piles of mud and flood-borne materials. Flood material cleaning continues to be carried out by TNI soldiers in disaster-affected locations, including in school buildings.

Seskab Teddy said that after being buried in mud, a number of schools are now clean again, and can be used for teaching and learning activities. However, school children are currently still on vacation.

"Even though it's the holiday season, the refugee children play there, go to school, study a little," said the Secretary of the Cabinet, Teddy.
