Meghan Markle Named the Most Disappointing Celebrity of 2025, Given Harsh Criticism
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex was crowned the most disappointing celebrity of 2025 by the newspaper from her hometown, Toronto Star. This assessment appears in an opinion article written by Patricia Treble.
The 44-year-old duchess spent seven years in Toronto while starring in the popular Netflix series, Suits. The city was a place for Meghan to live a 'normal life' amid her popularity, to become the location of Prince Harry's first visit when they started dating in 2016.
But according to Treble, Meghan is now considered to have failed to meet expectations in the past year. He wrote, "Meghan has had all the ingredients to be a global sensation, but in the past 12 months she seems to be slowly losing her appeal,"
Treble highlighted the lack of updates for the Netflix series Meghan, With Love, Meghan, and the second season of his podcast. In addition, the Sussex couple's new contract with Netflix in the form of an agreement, is considered less advantageous than the previous contract.
"The Kardashian family managed to get rich by constantly presenting themselves to the world. Meghan can be famous in the same way, open and honest," wrote Treble, quoted from the Daily Mail website on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
"If she doesn't want to open everything up, Meghan can choose the exclusivity route, like Princess Catherine of Wales, who actually increased her popularity," he added.
The article also alludes to Prince Harry who according to Treble "has done almost nothing this year", apart from participating in the Invictus Games.
The criticism comes after the couple's closest adviser, James Holt, resigned to become the sixth public relations staff to leave them in 2025.
Representatives for Meghan and Harry declined to comment on the assessment.
