Dompet Dhuafa Targets 1,000 Temporary Houses After the Sumatra Disaster
ACEH TAMIANG - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded 171,379 houses damaged and destroyed due to flash floods and landslides that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Responding to this condition, Dompet Dhuafa targets the construction of 1,000 Temporary Houses (RUMTARA) for disaster survivors, with construction carried out gradually in the three affected provinces. In January 2026, it is targeted that 200 units can be completed.
As part of the recovery phase, Dompet Dhuafa has inaugurated the first five RUMTARA units in Tamiang Kota, Aceh Tamiang Regency, on Wednesday (31/12/2025). The next development will continue to Pidie Jaya and a number of other affected areas in North Sumatra and West Sumatra, especially for survivors who have been living in displacement for more than a month.
RUMTARA is built on the land of the former beneficiary house with a size of 4.8 x 4.8 meters, intended as a safe and decent temporary residence during the recovery period. This program prioritizes vulnerable groups such as the elderly, widows, orphans, and survivors whose houses are severely damaged and cannot be inhabited again.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, Ahmad Juwaini, said that this program targets the provision of massive temporary housing in the next one year.
"We target the construction of 1,000 RUMTARA units and hope for support from the Indonesian people so that survivors can immediately leave the evacuation tent and rebuild their lives," he said, in a statement, Thursday, January 1.
Apart from the construction of RUMTARA, Dompet Dhuafa has also rolled out various other recovery programs, ranging from health services, emergency education, to economic recovery. As of December 30, 2025, Dompet Dhuafa has reached 117,386 beneficiaries in three affected provinces through various humanitarian actions supported by collaboration with partners, communities, and donors.
