Pramono Sanjung Jakarta Residents' Concern for the Victims of the Sumatra Disaster
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has managed to collect Rp3.1 billion in community donations in the series of 2026 New Year's Eve celebrations, which will later be handed over to disaster-affected communities in Sumatra.
"This is a contribution from the public of Jakarta, and we express our deepest gratitude for the concern shown," said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung when attending the New Year's Eve event themed 'Jakarta Global City: From Jakarta with Love' at HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, December 31 night, quoted by Antara.
This year's New Year's Eve celebration was celebrated by the DKI Provincial Government in a different way than in previous years.
This year's celebration was held without fireworks and was filled with donations and prayers together as a form of empathy for the disasters that occurred in Sumatra and a number of other regions in Indonesia.
The series of 2026 New Year's events held at various points in Jakarta began with a joint prayer involving the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB).
Pramono hopes that the prayers and moral, spiritual, and social assistance from the people of Jakarta can relieve the burden of the people in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and other affected areas.
"Several musical performances tonight are also adjusted as a form of solidarity and concern for our brothers and sisters in the affected areas," he added.
Pramono added that in addition to donations from the community, as much as 10 percent of Ancol's revenue, which is a BUMD owned by DKI Jakarta, on Wednesday (31/12) will also be donated for humanitarian purposes.
"The contribution from Ancol is certainly significant and will be combined in the total donation," he said.
Furthermore, Pramono explained that the distribution of assistance would be managed and distributed by the DKI Provincial Government in cooperation with the National Zakat Agency (Baznas). He said that the mechanism for distributing assistance through Baznas had been carried out several times to help disaster-affected areas.
On the other hand, Pramono appreciated the positive response of the public to the policy of abolishing fireworks on New Year's celebrations this time. According to him, compliance with the policy reflects the empathy and maturity of the Jakarta community.
"The public support is amazing. This reflects the empathy and maturity of the Jakarta community which is plural," he said.
He also said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would evaluate the New Year's celebration format in the coming years. However, for himself and Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, the momentum of the new year remains a time to continue to work and serve the community.
Even though all the events of the New Year's Eve were completed at 01.00 WIB, public transportation services operated until 02.00 WIB. Meanwhile, Transjakarta services on the main corridor will continue to operate for 24 hours to ensure that the public can return home in an orderly and safe manner.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also alerted personnel across various regional devices to ensure that Jakarta returns to its usual state after the New Year's Eve celebration.
A total of 3,395 Environment Service officers were deployed to maintain city cleanliness, 2,191 Transportation Service personnel were on alert for smooth mobility, and 1,692 personnel from the Police Pamong Praja Unit (Satpol PP) to maintain security and public order.
