Rain and No Fireworks, Monas Area Quiet on New Year's Eve 2026
JAKARTA - The 2025-2026 New Year's Eve celebration along Jalan MH Thamrin from Sarinah to Monas, Central Jakarta, was seen as careless.
From VOI's observation, there was no apparent density of people in the area even though the MH Thamrin Road section had been closed since 6:00 PM WIB.
In addition, the National Monument (Monas) area was also seen deserted. In fact, some people began to leave the Monas area because they were hit by moderate intensity rain.
"If there is no fireworks party, it won't be as many as last year. Moreover, now it is raining, many visitors to Monas choose to go home instead of riding a decorated carriage," said Sobari, a Monas carriage driver, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, evening.
Meanwhile, some other people who wanted to go to the Sarinah area chose to walk and park their two-wheeled vehicles in the IRTI Monas area.
They were divided into several groups and walked down Jalan MH Thamrin wearing raincoats.
Sukri (56) one of the raincoat traders said that he was very lucky to bring a number of raincoats to sell in the area.
"Alhamdulillah, it's raining again, so there are quite a lot of people buying plastic raincoats. I sell 1 pcs for Rp. 10 thousand. This is quite a lot of about 43 pcs," said Sukri to VOI.
Sukri admitted that in the previous year he sold mineral water. However, his goods were not sold out by buyers in the new year 2024-2025.
"I had experience selling mineral water last year but it was quiet, this year I tried selling raincoats and it turned out that Alhamdulillah I still have luck. It's raining," he said.
Until 21.15 WIB, the area of MH Thamrin Street and the Monas area was still seen as empty from the public who would enjoy the New Year's Eve.
Meanwhile, Dishub officers were still on duty and regulating traffic flow at the Indosat Monas roundabout, even though it was raining.
