Amorim Confident Manchester United Will Spend Money in January Transfer Window
JAKARTA - Ruben Amorim said Manchester United will not make any signings in January 2026 unless there is an agreement with Football Director Jason Wilcox about which players can improve the squad.
Manchester United appear to have failed to land Antoine Semenyo as Manchester City edge ahead in the race to sign the Bournemouth winger.
There have also been rumours of other transfers, particularly in the midfield. Amorim admitted that he did not always agree with Wilcox about the potential of new players.
He stressed that players would not come in January 2026 unless they got the approval of the coaching staff and the Board of Directors.
"Sometimes I have one idea, Jason and the Board of Directors have another idea. Every decision we make, we need to reach a mutual agreement."
"That's very important because you don't have to make everything for the manager because the manager can change, (then) you need to change everything."
"However, you also need to understand that the manager understands how to play. If you don't reach an agreement, the player won't come, so we're just trying to do that," Amorim said.
The Red Devils' potential to shop on the January 2026 market has strengthened after they failed to win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester United only played a 1-1 draw against the team that holds the English League standings at Old Trafford on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, early morning WIB.
Amorim has to play with a depleted squad during the festive season. Bruno Fernandes is on the list of players who are absent after suffering a hamstring injury.
"Bruno said he needs to train. It's impossible he plays against Wolves, impossible. He's the one who watches the training even after treatment," Amorim said.
Before Bruno Fernandes, Amorim also lost Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire in the list of players who were absent, both who went to defend their countries in the 2025 African Cup of Nations and injuries.
