Indonesian Musicians Who Passed Away Earlier in 2025
JAKARTA - Behind the glitz of Indonesian music throughout 2025, there is sad news from several Indonesian singers and musicians who have first returned to the Creator.
Titiek Puspa is the biggest name to leave the Indonesian music world this year. He breathed his last on April 10, after being hospitalized for several days.
Not only senior names, Gusti Irwan Wibowo who is known for his comedy music, died at the age of 25 on June 15.
The following is a list of Indonesian singers and musicians who died in 2025:
Jack Marpaung
2025 opened with sad news from the Batak pop music maestro, Jack Marpaung, who died at the age of 76. He breathed his last on January 5 at the Santa Carolus Hospital, Central Jakarta. The father of singer Novita Dewi died after two years of fighting against stroke.
Towards the end of his life, Jack's condition was critical due to sepsis (bacterial infection) that attacked his body. Jack Marpaung is known as the pillar of the legendary group Trio Lasidos and the creator of Batak songs that are timeless.
Emilia Contessa
The 1970s pop diva, Emilia Contessa, died on January 27, 2025, at the Blambangan Hospital, Banyuwangi, East Java. The mother of singer Denada died of a sudden heart attack, after previously having a history of diabetes and high blood pressure complications.
Emilia is an iconic figure nicknamed "The Lion of the Stage" for her incredible vocal power in her heyday.
Malyda
The singer who is popular with the song "Semua Jadi Satu", Malyda, died at Medistra Hospital, Jakarta on February 25 at 06.40 WIB. The departure of the singer with the full name Rosmalida Soedrajat surprised many parties because he was reported to have no history of serious illness before. Malyda left a legacy of a unique voice character that decorated the Indonesian creative pop music scene in the 1980s.
Titiek Puspa
Indonesia lost the most beloved "Eyang". Titiek Puspa died at Medistra Hospital, Jakarta on April 10. Breathing his last breath at the age of 87, Titiek was said to have died after a blood vessel rupture and left brain hemorrhage he had since March 26, 2025 while filming.
Working since the era of Indonesia's first president, Soekarno, Titiek Puspa has bequeathed hundreds of legendary songs such as "Kupu-Kupu Malam" and "Apanya Dong".
Ricky Siahaan
The Indonesian hard rock music world mourned when Seringai guitarist, Ricky Siahaan, died on April 19, 2025. Ricky died suddenly due to a heart attack in Tokyo, Japan, shortly after performing in the "Seringai Wolves of Asia Tour" series.
Apart from being a musician, Ricky is known as an influential figure in the creative industry who is quite respected.
Gusti Irwan Wibowo
Gusti Irwan Wibowo or commonly known as Gustiwiw, died on June 15. His sudden departure was a grief for many people, considering his pleasant figure.
Gusti died at a very young age, 25 years old, and in the middle of his music career which was starting to rise. His second album, "Endikup", was released a month after his death.
Hamdan ATT
The dangdut maestro Hamdan ATT died at the age of 76 on July 1 at 14.59 WIB. The singer of the song Termiskin di Dunia died after fighting against repeated strokes and chronic kidney disease.
Hamdan left a legacy of pure dangdut vocal techniques and has inspired many generations of dangdut singers in Indonesia.
Adjie Soetama
Legendary songwriter Adjie Soetama died at RSCM, Jakarta on August 21, 2025 at 19.40 WIB.
The musician behind Chrisye's hit songs such as "Hip Hip Hura" and "I Love Her" died due to complications from the disease and a heart attack. His cheerful and catchy works will remain an important part of the history of Indonesian popular music.
Emergency Bimbo
Darmawan Hardjakusumah, better known as Acil Bimbo, died at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung on September 1, 2025. Acil was known as a member of the legendary Bimbo group. He breathed his last at the age of 82 after fighting against lung cancer.
Acil is known not only through his religious music and ballads, but also his high dedication to the preservation of Sundanese culture and the environment.
Yaya Moektio
Towards the end of the year, grief came again from the rock world. Former drummer of God Bless and Gong 2000, Yaya Moektio, died on December 8 at 04.00 WIB. Yaya died due to serious complications that started from a ruptured appendix, then spread to an infection in the lungs and kidneys. He is remembered as one of the best rock drummers Indonesia has ever had.
