After the Missile Test, Kim Jong-un Reviews the Production of Advanced Rocket Weapons
PYONGYANG - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reviewed one of the country's major defense industrial enterprises producing advanced technology multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) artillery systems, which will soon be used by the main combat units of the Korean People's Army.
The official North Korean news agency, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), quoted via Sputnik, Tuesday, December 28 reported that Kim Jong-un directly inspected the production process and the readiness of the weapons system during his visit to the defense industry facility.
During the visit, Kim was accompanied by a number of senior officials of the Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party as well as the North Korean Ministry of Defense.
Kim praised the rapid increase in production capacity, while stressing that the MLRS system has a strategic role in the modernization of North Korea's artillery forces.
He called the development of rocket artillery an important part of strengthening the North Korean Army's combat capabilities amid regional security dynamics.
The visit comes just days after Kim Jong-un oversaw a live-fire drill of a long-range strategic cruise missile in the West Sea of Korea.
During the exercise, Kim expressed his satisfaction with the results of the test and stressed that the exercise was a tangible proof of the Korean People's Army's combat readiness in the face of various threat scenarios.
