Jakarta Continues PAM Pipe Project 1,000 Km in 2026, Pramono Acknowledges Target Pursuit

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that the PAM Jaya clean water piping connection project would still continue in 2026. In fact, the DKI Provincial Government targets a new pipe that will be connected next year along 1,000 kilometers (km).

Pramono admitted that the DKI Provincial Government is currently pursuing the expansion of the coverage of piped water services managed by Perumda PAM Jaya as DKI BUMD. The target,

"Indeed, the hope is that in 2029 (service coverage) it will be 100 percent in Jakarta. PAM Jaya now, by the end of 2025, the coverage of clean water will be 80 percent," said Pramono to reporters, Tuesday, December 30.

Therefore, to pursue the target of 100 percent piped clean water service in the Jakarta area, Pramono revealed that the pipe connection excavation project would continue to be carried out even though it caused congestion on the road.

"So, I have asked PAM Jaya to handle it not like before, dug up and then left. This one must be dug up, resolved, then moved to another place," said Pramono.

Previously, PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin apologized to Jakarta residents because the project would involve the construction of a large-scale pipeline network. In 2026, PAM Jaya targets the addition of around 450 thousand home connections or equivalent to the construction of a pipeline along 1,000 kilometers.

Currently, the total PAM Jaya pipeline network has reached around 12,800 kilometers. The addition of the network is carried out to expand access to clean water services, especially for low-income people, to pursue the target of 100 percent service coverage by 2029.

"Next year our target is 450 thousand connections or reaching an additional 1000 km. Currently the PAM pipe is 12,800 km. If we enter into small communities, the benefits of clean water that can be used are extraordinary," said Arief, Saturday, December 27.

Arief admitted that the project had the potential to cause traffic disruptions in the capital. He apologized publicly for the impact that residents might feel.

"So, at the same time, I also report, I apologize, sir, I will make it congested again, sir, PAM, 1,000 kilometers," he said.

He explained that the installation of pipes would be focused on a number of areas, especially East Jakarta and North Jakarta. Several points in South Jakarta have also begun to be touched by the project to strengthen the water network and source.

"Our focus will be in eastern Jakarta, northern Jakarta, a little bit to the south, we have started to increase the water source and the connection has reached the Foreign Affairs Ministry, yes, if we are not mistaken, we have made a little bit of traffic in Pondok Pinang," said Arief.
