What is Superflu that Triggers High Influenza Cases?
YOGYAKARTA - The public is asked to be aware of cases of influenza which are the trigger for infection in acute respiratory tract. In various media, the case of influenza is represented by the term superflu. Superflu is considered to be wary because the transmission rate is quite high, especially in cold areas. To understand what superflu is, read the following article.
What is Superflu? As reported by Antara, the superflu is part of the H3N2 influenza virus of the K subclade variant, which is a flu virus that appears seasonally. Cases of influenza infection increase in winter between October and February.
In some reports, superflu is said to be the cause of the rise in influenza cases in several countries, one of which is in America and other countries in the northern hemisphere that are entering winter.
Although it has been widely reported as a trigger for influenza cases recently, there is no indication that the superflu that belongs to the K subclade is more virulent than other circulating H3N2 influenza viruses, according to the vaccine alliance, GAVI.
Regarding this condition, Member of the Respiratory Coordination Working Unit of the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) Dr. dr. Nastiti Kaswandani Sp.A(K) explained that the alleged use of the term superflu in this unfluenza virus variant is because of its very fast transmission. He described that one person who is infected can infect up to 3 people around him.
He also explained that H3N2 is able to evolve and mutate, to be able to trigger an epidemic. When that happens, it will certainly give rise to a chain effect such as an increase in patient care in hospitals and an impact on the increase in the need for health tools and medicines.
Symptoms of SuperfluAccording to Dr. Nastiti's explanation, the symptoms of patients infected with superflu are actually the same as the symptoms of influenza A in general. Some symptoms that may be felt are high fever, nausea, dizziness, sore throat, or cold symptoms.
"If we delve further into this subclade K, it is a part or variant of the flu A H3N2, it cannot be detected clinically, which means that doctors, if they just look at it, cannot even distinguish whether it is influenza or not influenza, it is only possible to suspect it clinically similar to influenza," he explained, quoted Tuesday, December 30.
Similarly, the symptoms of superflu are also described on the official website of The British Institute of Cleaning Science. The symptoms shown by sufferers of superflu are indeed the same. In the same site it is also said that there are several groups of people who have a high chance of being infected with superflu, namely as follows.
Pregnant women Children aged 2 or 3 years Old people over the age of 65 years Adults in clinical risk groups People with medical conditions with long-term care. That's the information related to what is a superflu. Visit VOI.id to get other interesting information.
