Ready for Rain, BMKG Forecasts Today's Rain Will Flood Most Major Cities in Indonesia
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that light rain will pour over most major cities in Indonesia today, Tuesday, December 30.
BMKG Praktirawan Miftah Ali said that starting from Sumatra Island, the weather is expected to be light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandar Lampung.
"Be aware of the lightning rain that can occur in Aceh," he said on the Youtube channel that was followed in Jakarta, quoted by Antara.
Turning to Java, the weather is expected to be thick clouds in Yogyakarta and Surabaya, while light rain is expected to rain on the Serang and Semarang areas.
"The city of Jakarta has the potential for moderate rain, and be aware of rain that may be accompanied by lightning in the Bandung area," he said.
Moving to the Kalimantan region, Palangkaraya City is predicted to have light rain, while Tanjung Selor and Samarinda are hit by moderate intensity rain.
"Be aware of lightning that can occur in Pontianak and Banjarmasin," said Miftah.
Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather is predicted to be thick clouds in Denpasar, while light rain has the potential to rain on the Kupang and Mataram areas.
Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to be smoky or foggy in the Palu area, while Gorontalo, Manado, Mamuju, Makassar, and Kendari will be showered with light rain.
Shifting to the Maluku region, the weather in Ternate and Ambon City is predicted to be light rain.
Meanwhile, for the Papua region, Manokwari City is predicted to be thick clouds, while Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya City is predicted to be light rain.
"Rain is potentially pouring over the Sorong and Merauke areas," said Miftah.
BMKG also reminded the public to be on alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Aceh, North Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, NTB, and NTT.
