Istana: Prabowo meminta BMKG Tambah Alat Modifikasi Cuaca

JAKARTA - Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi said President Prabowo Subianto asked the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to add equipment to support weather modification operations as part of disaster mitigation efforts.

"BMKG is also continuously modifying the weather, including the President who also asked for the addition of tools so that we can modify the weather," said Prasetyo in a press conference on Post-disaster Recovery and Strategic Plans before the End of the Year at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Monday, December 29.

Prasetyo said that the addition of the modification tool was necessary considering that Indonesia is a country with a vast territory so it needs better preparedness in the face of potential disasters.

The previous disaster experience that occurred in three provinces in Sumatra, he said, was a reminder of the need for more mature preparation, including strengthening the devices and planning for weather modification operations early on.

"Including the devices for this weather operation, they also need to be strengthened and planned as much as possible, as early as possible," said Prasetyo.

In addition, Prasetyo said the government also continues to ask the BMKG to monitor climate and weather conditions on an ongoing basis, especially ahead of the new year.

According to him, the period from December to January is generally followed by an increase in rainfall that has the potential to trigger disasters.

In this context, the government also asked that mitigation efforts be carried out consistently by the BMKG through coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This step is intended so that local governments, especially in disaster-prone areas, can immediately take anticipatory steps in accordance with the development of weather and climate conditions.

"We ask for mitigation efforts to be coordinated continuously with the Ministry of Home Affairs so that areas that are prone to disasters can immediately take anticipatory steps," he said.
