3 Hadith about Responsibility: So a Reminder not to Ignore Trust
YOGYAKARTA - The hadith about responsibility is a confirmation that Muslims should not run away from the responsibilities given to them.
According to Mustari in the book Concept of Responsibility in Islam, the word responsibility is the attitude and behavior of a person in carrying out duties and obligations to oneself, society, the environment, and to God.
In Islam, understanding of responsibility can be sourced from the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Through his words and deeds, the Prophet emphasized the importance of a responsible attitude for Muslims.
Hadith about ResponsibilitySummarized from various sources, the following are some hadiths about responsibility that can be used as guidelines so as not to run away from responsibility:
The Impact of Avoiding ResponsibilityAccording to NU Online, in a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari, the Prophet Muhammad reminded Muslims not to run away from their responsibilities. The Prophet said:
When the trust is lost, wait for the Hour. He said, "How did it get lost?" He said, "When the matter is settled to someone other than its owner, wait for the Hour.
"If the trust is lost, then wait for the Day of Judgment". The man (Bedouin) asked, "How did the trust disappear?" The Prophet replied, "When an affair is not entrusted to its expert, then wait for the Day of Judgment." (HR. Al-Bukhari).
The scholars interpret the above hadith with the term al-mas'uliyyah or responsibility for God's blessings given to humans, whether it is a position or abundant blessings.
Every Human Will Be Asked for AccountabilityThe next hadith about responsibility explains that every human being will be held accountable for the trust given to him.
"According to the book Fikih Responsibilitas Tanggung Jawab Muslim dalam Islam by Ali Abdul Halim Mahmud, in a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari and Muslim with the chain of transmission of Abdullah bin Umar RA, the Prophet said:
"Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock.
"Every one of you is a leader, and every one of you will be held accountable for what you lead,"
Obligation to Hold the TrustThrough his words, the Prophet also asked the Muslims to hold the trust well, because in the Hereafter, he will be held accountable for what he leads.
For the Imam of a village who is responsible for his village,
"A leader is a leader, and he will be held accountable for the people he leads," (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).
In more detail, the Prophet explained that every leader will be held accountable for the people under his leadership.
A man is positioned as the leader in his family and is responsible for their well-being. This affirmation is an elaboration of the previous provisions regarding the trust of leadership.
If a man holds the role of family leader, then a woman also has a leadership role in her husband's household and is also responsible for the trust.
Furthermore, the husband is obliged to meet all the needs of the family, ranging from housing, food and drink, clothing, to various household needs such as electricity, education, and other needs. Meanwhile, the wife has the responsibility to care for the family, educate children at home, and give love wholeheartedly. This explanation is implied in the following hadith:
The man is the head of his household and is responsible for it, and the woman is the head of her household and is responsible for it,
"A husband is the leader in his family, and he will be held accountable for those he leads. A wife is the leader in her husband's house, and she will be held accountable for what she leads," (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).
