BPBD records 10,949 souls affected by floods in Balangan South Kalimantan, the Regency Government establishes the status of emergency response
BALANGAN - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan (Kalsel), reported that 10,949 people were affected and 3,511 houses were submerged due to flooding in 27 villages spread across seven sub-districts in Balangan.
"The Balangan Regency Government (Pemkab) has set the emergency response status for flood disaster management until January 3, 2026," said Balangan Regent Abdul Hadi when reviewing the post-flood affected location in Tebing Tinggi District, Balangan, Antara, Sunday, December 28.
He expressed his concern over the flood disaster that hit a number of villages, especially in Tebing Tinggi and Halong Districts.
"I am very concerned about the disaster that has hit residents in Tebing Tinggi, Halong, and others. Hopefully, the affected community will remain patient and brave in facing this trial," he said.
Hadi emphasized that the post-flood handling process was carried out in an integrated manner by involving local governments, the TNI, the National Police, the community, and volunteers.
According to him, the main focus at this time is to clean up mud and flood debris so that residents' homes and public facilities can be returned to function.
Meanwhile, the Balangan Police Chief AKBP Yulianor Abdi expressed concern over the flood disaster that occurred since Saturday (27/12) morning in a number of villages, especially in Tebing Tinggi District.
"To accelerate the recovery of the affected area, I have instructed the personnel of the Balangan Police and the BKO Brimob Yon Tabalong to immediately help clean up the mud and debris after the flood together with the Balangan Regency Government, the TNI, the community, and volunteers," said Yulianor.
In addition to reviewing the flood location, the Balangan Forkopimda delegation also held a dialogue with the affected residents and distributed assistance in the form of food and urgent needs, such as baby diapers, soap, candles, and other needs.
The entourage also reviewed the Disaster Management Post which was located in the yard of the Tebing Tinggi Sub-district Office. Then continued with a coordination meeting in the Tebing Tinggi District Hall to discuss the steps for the continuation of handling the post-flood impact.
In addition to Balangan Regency, floods also hit several other regencies in South Kalimantan Province, which were caused by heavy rainfall since Friday (26/12) evening.
