UMP Jakarta Rp5.7 Million Protested by a Group of Workers, Rano Karno: Natural, the Dynamics of Life

JAKARTA - The determination of the DKI Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) of Rp5.7 million has been rejected by a number of labor groups. A demonstration is planned to be held on Monday as a form of protest against the decision.

Responding to this, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno admitted that the dynamics of rejection of UMP is something that often happens every year. According to him, differences in views between the government, workers, and entrepreneurs cannot be avoided.

"This means that this is the reality that is happening, Jakarta sits together, an agreement is reached. Even if there is dissatisfaction, it is very natural. That is the dynamics of life. Therefore, we will find out what the way is," said Rano in East Jakarta, Sunday, December 28.

Rano emphasized that in determining the value of the Jakarta UMP next year, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung referred to the results of the recommendations of the DKI Jakarta Wage Board which consisted of government elements, workers' groups, and employers.

In the results of the formulation of the UMP held by the Wage Council, the employer organization element proposed the use of an alpha value of 0.55 from the economic growth of DKI Jakarta to determine the amount of next year's wages.

Meanwhile, the trade union or labor union element proposed the DKI Jakarta UMP 2026 of IDR 5,898,511 or using an alpha above 0.9. This proposal is based on the results of the calculation of the minimum living standard (KHL) for the DKI Jakarta Province.

Meanwhile, from the government element, the DKI Jakarta UMP 2026 amount was proposed with the use of an alpha of 0.75 from the DKI Jakarta economic growth. This figure was used by Pramono in determining the UMP.

"UMP is a decision from the Wage Council. The Wage Council consists of Tripartit. There are local governments, workers, and employers there. Even if the Governor has issued a Pergub, it is through a long process," said Rano.

Rano said the local government understood the objections from the workers.

However, he assessed that the refusal and the plan for a demonstration were part of the rights protected in the democratic system.

"Whether later the workers will demo or protest, it goes back to the right. There is a mechanism, it can be the PTUN, it is a normal mechanism. However, let's sit down together," he said.

Therefore, Rano revealed that the DKI Provincial Government issued special incentives for workers for 2026, namely transportation, health, and drinking water needs from PAM Jaya.

This policy is an effort to improve the welfare of workers in Jakarta, beyond the amount of UMP that has been determined.

"Rp5.7 (million) actually the Jakarta component also gives subsidies to workers. For example, what? Transportation, cheap groceries. Well, that's a component for improving (well-being)," he said.
