Al-Shabab Militants Vow to Fight Israeli Interference in Somaliland Independence
JAKARTA - The Al-Shabab militant group vowed to fight any Israeli attempt to be the first party in the world to officially recognize the independence of Somaliland.
Somaliland is a region of Somalia that has been separated since 1991 but the UN countries have never recognized it as independent.
"We will not accept it, and we will fight it," Al-Shabab said on Saturday, December 27, quoted by AFP.
The militant group considers Israel's recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state as another form of interference in a country.
According to them, this effort is Israel's continued aggression against the sovereignty of the country, which this time is in East Africa.
"Israel has decided to expand its territory to some parts of Somalia to support the apostate government in the northwest," the statement said.
