Foreign Player Quota, Bogor Hornbills Recruit Kaleb Wesson
JAKARTA - Bogor Hornbills recruited Kaleb Wesson to fill the quota or quota of three foreign players to face the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) 2026, which begins on January 10.
The IBL website, Saturday, stated that the basketball player was the second foreign player recruited by the club based at GOR Laga Tangkas, Bogor Regency, West Java.
Previously, the club had recruited Travin Thibodeaux to strengthen the team for next season.
Kaleb Wesson's name is not a stranger to Indonesian basketball lovers.
The former Golden State Warriors player was a hot topic in 2021, because he was associated with a naturalization plan to strengthen the Indonesian national basketball team.
The issue came to light in March 2021, when Wesson was seen taking a photo with Brandon Van Dorn Jawato and Maulana Fareza Tamrella, who at that time served as the manager of the Indonesian national team.
A number of national basketball media at that time named Wesson as one of the candidates for naturalized players, although the discourse eventually did not continue and disappeared over time.
Now Wesson's attention has returned to the public after Bogor Hornbills announced his recruitment.
He was briefly signed by the Golden State Warriors in December 2020, but never appeared in the NBA. The 2.11-meter-tall player played more with the Warriors' affiliate team, the Santa Cruz Warriors, in the NBA G-League.
In 11 games, Wesson averaged 11 points per game (ppg), 9.9 rebounds per game (rpg), 2.7 assists per game (apg), and one steal per game (spg).
He also has long-range shooting ability with a 32 percent accuracy from three-point shots, with an average of four attempts per game.
Wesson's career in the United States did not develop as expected, so he chose to continue his professional journey abroad. He is known to have played in Belgium, Israel, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
The last club he played for was Kaohsiung Aquas in the Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL). Although he was released in July 2025, Wesson appeared impressive with an average of double-double, namely 16.6 ppg and 12.2 rpg from a total of 25 matches, including 10 playoff matches.
Joining the Bogor Hornbills was Kaleb Wesson's first experience to play in Indonesia. His presence is expected to strengthen the sector in the team, as well as provide answers to the public's curiosity about the ability of players who have shocked the basketball community in the country.
