Russia Strengthens Nuclear Triad in Weapons Plans
JAKARTA - Russia plans to modernize its nuclear triad and develop a universal air defense system as part of the country's new weapons program for 2027-2036.
"Special attention is given to improving the capabilities of ground forces, maintenance and modernization of the nuclear triad, the development of universal air defense systems, and increasing the export potential of Russian weapons and equipment," he said, quoted by Anadolu, Saturday, December 27.
The National Armament Program serves as a long-term planning document that regulates the development, production, and maintenance of weapons and military hardware in combat readiness.
Approved by the Russian president every five years, the 10-year program addresses existing and future threats to national security.
In December 2025, the parameters for the 2027-2036 cycle were calculated and ready for official approval.
The goal includes the systematic procurement of military equipment based on real-world combat experience and current global challenges.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated that the country's nuclear forces had been modernized by 92 percent, and claimed that no other power in the world had reached that level.
The announcement follows reports of the deployment of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile system in combat duty earlier this month.
