Palembang SAR is looking for a child who drowned in the Komering River
PALEMBANG - The Palembang Search and Rescue (SAR) team, South Sumatra, is looking for a boy who drowned on Friday, December 26, 2025, in the Komering River, Lubuk Dalam Village, Kayuagung District, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra.
The head of the Palembang SAR Office, Raymond Konstantin in Palembang, Saturday, said the victim named M. Hafiz Riski (7th/Lk) was reported missing after drowning in the Komering River.
According to information, the victim who is a resident of Talang Jambe, Palembang is on vacation at his grandmother's house. On Friday afternoon at around 16.00 WIB, the victim went to bathe in the river with his grandmother and three brothers.
While bathing, the victim and three of his brothers were suddenly swept away by the river. The victim's grandmother, who saw the incident, immediately provided assistance and managed to save the victim's three brothers, while the victim's body was washed away and drowned.
"We received information about the incident on Friday evening at around 21.30 WIB and immediately ordered the Palembang SAR Office Rescue Team to leave for the location with water SAR equipment to search for the victim," he said.
He added that the search was carried out by the Joint SAR Team consisting of the Palembang SAR Office of Basarnas, TNI/Polri, BPBD Village Apparatus, Volunteers and the Community but the victim has not yet been found.
"For the search method, we divide the Joint SAR Team into two Search And Rescue Units (SRU). SRU 1 conducts a search by combing the river flow using a rubber boat as far as 8 kilometers to the northwest," he explained.
Meanwhile, SRU 2 will search by diving around the initial location of the incident and disseminate information to the public along the river banks, hopefully with these various efforts the victim can be found immediately.
