Taeil's Appeal Rejected by Court for Harassment Case
JAKARTA - The second appeal of former NCT Taeil was again rejected by the court. Taeil and his two friends appealed the sentence they received for sexual harassment against a woman.
In June 2024, Taeil and two of his friends were reported for sexual harassment of a drunk and unconscious woman. He and two defendants, Hong and Lee, were sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
After receiving the verdict, the three appealed the decision for the first time, but the Seoul High Court rejected the appeal.
Then, they filed a second appeal and brought the case to the Supreme Court. This rejection actually strengthened the sentence of the three of them.
Friday, December 26, the Supreme Court rejected their appeal and upheld the 3-year-6-month prison sentence for the defendants. They felt there was no basis to support their third appeal which emphasized this was their criminal act.
In addition to prison sentences, Taeil and his two friends must undergo a 40-hour rehabilitation program for sexual offenders. They also have a five-year work restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents and people with disabilities.
Taeil who was a member of NCT is still active as a group member despite undergoing an examination in July 2024. SM Entertainment then announced the singer's departure in August 2024.
Taeil left at a time when NCT 127 was actively promoting their latest album and celebrating their group debut.
