China Makes Animation Once Upon A Virus To Fight US Allegations Of Corona Origins
JAKARTA - COVID-19 has sparked contention between the United States (US) and China to an unprecedented level. The US has consistently pointed to China as the country responsible for the pandemic. One time, China was negligent. At other times, China is the creator of the virus. China, recently responded to the US response with a short animation titled Once Upon a Virus.
The US and China have long been engaged in a war of words over the origins of COVID-19. US anger towards China was triggered by the origin of the new corona virus which first appeared in the City of Wuhan, China and has now developed into a global pandemic.
Reported by Reuters on Monday, May 4, US President Donald Trump said he believed the new corona virus came from the virology laboratory in Wuhan. Trump claims to have obtained evidence. However, Trump is reluctant to explain the evidence he means.
The animation, uploaded by China's official Xinhua news agency, is set on a stage drama, complete with red curtains and a screen in the background. The video features fictional characters in the form of legos: masked terracotta warriors and the Statue of Liberty.
"We found a new virus," said the soldier.
"Then?" answered the Statue of Liberty. "It's just the flu."
When fighters issued warnings about the virus and delivered grim milestones in the outbreak in China, the Statue of Liberty responded indifferently to Trump's press conference in which he downplayed the severity of the disease.
"We are always right, even though we contradict ourselves," said the Statue of Liberty.
"That's what I love about you Americans, your consistency," said the soldier.
The US and other countries accuse China of misleading the world about the severity of the outbreak. Additionally, there are growing calls for international investigations into the origins of this virus.
Earlier, in an interview, Trump said he believed China's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was proof that the Bamboo Curtain country "will do whatever it can" to make it fail to become president again in the 2020 US elections.
Trump also said he believed China wanted his rival, Joe Biden, to win the US presidency to ease the pressure Trump was putting on China over trade and other issues.
"They are constantly using public relations to try to make it appear as if they are the innocent party," Trump said of the Chinese Government.
Trump has blamed China from the start for a global pandemic that has killed at least 60,000 people in the US. The COVID-19 pandemic has also plunged the US economy into a deep recession, jeopardizing Trump's hopes of returning to office.
