Passengers of Transportation to Thousand Islands and Long Distance Trains Increase during Christmas 2025

JAKARTA - The movement of sea transport passengers to the Thousand Islands and long-distance trains from Jakarta increased during the 2025 Christmas holiday.

The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) recorded that on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, as many as 4,516 passengers used sea transportation to the Thousand Islands.

"This number increased by 313.78 percent compared to the normal period and almost 80 percent compared to Christmas 2024, reflecting the high public interest in using sea transportation during the holiday period," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service Syafrin Liputo in a statement, Friday, December 26.

In addition to sea transportation, there was also an increase in long-distance train services. Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, and Jatinegara served a total of 62,625 passengers on December 25, 2025.

"This amount increased by 1.33 percent compared to the previous period, with operations running smoothly and on time," said Syafrin.

Syafrin said the dynamics of community mobility during Christmas 2025 were still under control, in line with the strengthening of supervision at transport nodes and cross-sector coordination.

"The data we have collected shows that the mobility of the community during Christmas 2025 is dynamic and under control. This is the result of the readiness of all levels and solid collaboration between the government, transportation operators, and related authorities," he said.

On the other hand, the use of Inter-City Inter-Provincial Buses (AKAP) has actually decreased compared to last year. Until December 25, 2025 at 23.59 WIB, seven AKAP terminals in DKI Jakarta recorded a total of 11,516 passengers, consisting of 4,618 arriving passengers and 6,898 departing passengers.

Even though the number increased by 78.82 percent compared to normal days, on an annual basis the number of AKAP passengers decreased by 3.85 percent compared to the 2024 Christmas period. This decline indicates a decrease in public interest in traveling outside the area using intercity buses from Jakarta.

Syafrin said that several terminals, such as the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal and Tanjung Priok Terminal, had recorded a surge in passengers compared to normal days. However, overall distribution of movement was considered more even.

Cumulatively, in the period 18-24 December 2025, the total passengers at the seven AKAP terminals reached 83,090 people. This figure is down 16.48 percent compared to the 2024 Christmas period.

The decline in mobility is also seen in the use of private vehicles. On Christmas Day, the traffic volume at the four main toll gates in Jakarta recorded 134,429 vehicles entering and 184,573 vehicles leaving.

Monitoring through 18 sensor points of the Traffic Control System (SPLL) recorded about 2.1 million vehicles entering and leaving Jakarta on December 25, 2025. Compared to the normal period, the volume of vehicles both entering and leaving decreased.

DKI Jakarta's Dishub also recorded a 0.81 percent decrease in vehicle volume on the toll road during the period of 18-24 December 2025. This condition shows that traffic flows are relatively more controlled compared to the previous year.

"Vehicle movement is observed to be stable, with variations in increases and decreases at a number of toll gates compared to the previous year," said Syafrin.

In the midst of this mobility dynamics, the DKI Jakarta Office of Transportation emphasized that safety supervision remained a priority during the year-end holiday period. Until December 25, 2025, a total of 1,148 vehicles had undergone ramp checks and 381 vehicle crews had taken health tests.
