Workers Reject DKI UMP 2026 Rp5.7 Million, DKI Provincial Government: This Number Still Applies for Economic Stability
JAKARTA - The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, responded to the rejection of the labor group against the determination of the 2026 Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) of Rp5.7 million.
Chico emphasized that the amount of the minimum monthly wage next year, which increased by Rp333,115 from 2025, took into account the economic conditions in Jakarta so that it remained stable and was not too burdensome for the group of entrepreneurs.
"For now, this figure remains valid for the stability of the regional economy. We appreciate the aspirations of the labor group. The DKI Provincial Government will continue to monitor the implementation of this UMP starting January 1, 2026," Chico told reporters, Friday, December 26.
Chico understands the rejection from some labor groups who want a higher increase because their living needs are considered unmet by the current UMP.
However, Chico emphasized that this determination had gone through a long deliberation process in the Provincial Wage Council, involving representatives of workers, employers, and the government, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 49 of 2025 concerning Wages.
"Governor Pramono Anung has stated that this amount is the result of a mutual agreement, with a formula that considers inflation, economic growth, and an alpha index of 0.75 to maintain a balance between workers' purchasing power and business sustainability," he said.
Therefore, Chico revealed that the DKI Provincial Government will provide three special incentives for workers for 2026, namely transportation, health, and drinking water needs from PAM Jaya.
"In addition, we will strengthen the subsidized staple food program through the Smart Jakarta Card (KJP) Plus and other social assistance programs, as well as expanding social security through BPJS Employment and Health which is integrated with worker data," he said.
The Indonesian Workers' Confederation (KSPI) has firmly rejected the determination of the DKI Jakarta UMP for 2026, which was set at Rp5.73 million per month. KSPI President Said Iqbal assessed that the policy did not reflect the pro-labor stance and could actually reduce workers' purchasing power in the midst of high living costs in the capital.
"We reject it. I repeat, KSPI and the Labor Party reject the increase in the DKI Jakarta minimum wage for 2026 which is set with an index of 0.75 so that the UMP is only IDR 5.73 million," said Said Iqbal in an official statement, Thursday, December 25.
The rejection, said Said Iqbal, was the unanimous attitude of all trade union alliances in DKI Jakarta which also received full support from the Labor Party.
"Workers reject the determination of the DKI 2026 UMP by the DKI Governor, workers are getting poorer and their purchasing power is decreasing," he said.
According to Said Iqbal, there are at least four main reasons for workers' rejection of the determination of the DKI Jakarta Minimum Wage 2026. First, all DKI Jakarta labor alliances have agreed to the demand that the minimum wage be set at 100 percent of the Minimum Living Standard (KHL).
Based on the Ministry of Manpower's calculations, continued Said Iqbal, the value of 100 percent KHL is Rp5.89 million per month.
"With UMP Rp5.73 million, there is still a difference of around Rp160 thousand. The difference of Rp160,000 is very meaningful for workers, it can be for food, transportation, or other basic needs," said Said Iqbal.
