Car Sales Down in 2025, Why Motor Still Stable?

JAKARTA - Car sales in Indonesia have slowed significantly, referring to Gaikindo data from January to November 2025, recording 710,084 units in wholesales. Meanwhile, retail sales recorded 739,977 units, a figure that is far from the target of 900,000 units.

However, motorcycle sales are actually stable. Referring to the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), motorcycle sales in the country during January-November 2025 have reached 5.95 million units. This nominal is up 0.35 percent from the same period last year.

Seeing this, PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) provided analysis, through the Manager of Public Relations, YRA & Community PT YIMM, Rifki Maulana.

"It could be, but this is just an assumption. We are encouraging premium categories. It could be that with the four-wheel condition down, they switch to two wheels," he said when met in the Senayan area, some time ago.

However, he did not elaborate on the details and the characteristics of consumers. It could be looking for other alternatives more precisely.

"But how much percent and what is the character of the consumer, I don't know. So the condition is like that. Maybe looking for other alternatives," he added.

In 2025, Yamaha itself will present several new models in Indonesia, which of course can boost motorcycle sales figures. The latest one is embedding 'Turbo' technology in the Xmax model, which provides an interesting choice for consumers.

Previously, Yamaha presented the Yamaha Gear Ultima 125 Hybrid which was officially launched in March 2025. This latest model offers a versatile scooter concept with a powerful and fuel-efficient hybrid engine, as well as modern features such as a large trunk and dual hangers.
