BMKG: Beware of the Potential of Heavy Rain-Very Heavy in Several Regions of Indonesia on Friday
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminds the public to be ready for heavy to very heavy rain caused by atmospheric dynamics in a number of areas on Friday, December 26, 2025.
In a statement quoted in Jakarta, BMKG Weather Officer Masayu said that the condition was in the Aceh, Bengkulu, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan regions.
The combination of a number of atmospheric dynamics causes the potential for weather to be quite significant in several regions of Indonesia.
"Tropical Cyclone GRANT is monitored in the South Indian Ocean, Bengkulu, with a maximum wind speed of 35 knots or 65 km per hour and a minimum air pressure of 997 hektopascals with a westward direction," said Masayu as quoted by Antara.
Masayu said that in the next 24 hours, this Tropical Cyclone became Category 2 or dangerous.
"This tropical cyclone, he said, can increase wind speeds around the system or low level jet to reach more than 25 knots in the West Indian Ocean Lampung and form an area of wind speed deceleration or convergence and wind meeting or confluence in the West Indian Ocean region Bengkulu Lampung to South Banten.
Tropical Cyclone 96S was observed in the South of West Nusa Tenggara with a maximum speed of 15 knots or 28 km per hour with a minimum air pressure of 1,008 hektopascals and a direction of movement to the west.
"This seedling has a low potential to become a Tropical Cyclone in the next 24 hours," he said.
The Tropical Cyclone Seed is inducing the formation of an area of wind speed deceleration (convergence) and wind meeting (confluence) in West Nusa Tenggara and South East Nusa Tenggara.
Other convergence areas extend from the Strait of Malacca to the Bangka Belitung Islands, Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Java, East Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua.
"This condition is able to increase the potential for rain clouds to meet around the Tropical Cyclone, Tropical Cyclone Seed, Cyclonic Circulation, and along the convergence-confluence areas," he said.
Regarding the weather in other areas, he reminded the public in western Indonesia to be aware of the potential for lightning in Palembang and Palangka Raya, as well as the potential for moderate rain in Bengkulu and Jakarta.
He also mentioned that there was also the potential for light rain in most of Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan, as well as the potential for cloudy to cloudy weather in Banda Aceh.
For eastern Indonesia, according to Masayu, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for moderate rain in Mamuju, Kendari, Makassar, and Merauke.
"There is also the potential for light rain in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Palu, Makassar, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, and parts of Papua, as well as the potential for thick clouds in Gorontalo, the potential for smoke and fog in Sorong," he said.
